Holistic Pet Health Information

Many people are turning to holistic healing for themselves and their families, and often their families include a dog and/or cat. There are holistic pet health treatments similar to those made for humans that can be classified as alternative medicine. In other words, these are not conventional treatments your vet is going to provide. While holistic pet health care should not be substituted for veterinary advice, it can often be used in conjunction with current treatments. Often holistic means organic, so you can start with your dog’s food.

Organic dog food made from high quality ingredients and no fillers will keep your dog well nourished without being overweight and satisfied. You can also find organic dog treats, some which address particular concerns like hyper behavior, shedding fur or joint discomfort. Another part of alternative wellness for your pet may be acupressure and massage. Dogs can benefit from this type of healing massage and even aromatherapy along with it. Massage is also a great way to bond with your dog.

Pet Grooming Products for Dogs and Cats

There are all kinds of pet grooming products for dogs and cats. Regardless of what kind of pet you have, it is likely grooming of some sort will be required. How often to groom and what products to use will depend on the type of dog or cat you have. Short haired cats and dogs may require less grooming, but they do need attention periodically. Before shopping for pet grooming products, evaluate the needs of your pet.

Short haired dogs will need a brush made for their coat length. These brushes remove dead hair that your dog would shed. Regularly brushing your short haired dog can help avoid little dog hairs all over the place. There are conditioning sprays for all coat lengths that add shine and fragrance. For long haired dogs, you may require a shedding comb, an undercoat brush and an overcoat brush. Long haired dogs require daily grooming or their coat will get knots and mats. While poodles do not shed, they need to be brushed regularly and their coat trimmed.
